Cherokee Chase Wrap Up

Thanks to everyone who came out this weekend for a great race.  The weather was perfect and the course was challenging (and everyone got their money's worth with a short detour early on).  Lots of money was raised for the Acadiana Therapeutic Riding Organization.  Here are a few pictures from the race, and the links to the results are below.

What is Phillip up to in DC?

Phillip on top of the US Capitol dome.

Sounds normal to me....

I guess for a non-runner, the things these guys say might sound strange.  To me, not so much...

Rouge Orleans Relay

If any of you are interested in participating in the Rouge Orleans
UltraMarathon and Team Relay,  here's your chance!!

I have friends who are doing the 6 person team who had one of their team member back
out, and they are in need of a replacement runner.  They aren't planning on winning the race,
but they are planning to have the most fun!  If you want more details message me (Edie)
at geauxrun@gmail.com, and I will get you in touch with the right people.

OR - if you weren't interested in running it, but you might like to crew for
a friend of ours who is doing the entire 126 miles solo, your help is needed.
This would be a great way to see first hand what an ultramarathon looks like,
not to mention you should have some GREAT stories about how the
runners look late in the race!! Message me at the same email and I will get you
all of the information.

Oldest Finishers of 100 Mile Races

Just a little bit of trivia that I found interesting.  Thought you might too. Further proof
that the only limitations that you have are the ones you put on yourself.

Click here for a list of the all-time oldest male 100 mile run finishers.
Registration forms can be picked up at Geaux Run

cushioning than your Kwicky's?
Well, here it is - the KSwiss California gives a little more of both, while keeping
some of the things that everyone loves about the Kwicky:
Seam Free (good for those of you who like to go sockless)
Hydro-phobic (upper sheds water better than most trainers)
Weighs in at 9.5 oz for women and 11.5 oz for men.

Come in and check them out!!

Book Review...

This review was written by our very own local runner, Monique Koll.
Thanks again Monique for putting this together for us!

I'm Here To Win: A World Champion's Advice for Peak Performance, by Chris McCormack with Tim Vandehey. 4/5 stars

With 6.5 pages of acknowledgments, honest details about his personal and professional life, and the enormous effort put into sizing up his competitor's strengths and weaknesses to gain a mental advantage over them (that has served him very well) this book gives a very profound insight into the egotistical outspoken champion triathlete. I went into it thinking Macca was just another ego-driven jock, but now I have the utmost respect for his honesty with himself, his cleverness, and the love of his sport.

Macca gives advice not only on how to be a great triathlete, but how to juggle personal and professional life, how important it is to listen to yourself and your body and not always necessarily the "canned" programs for training and nutrition around you, and how important your whole life is, not just your profession. He emphasizes the sport belongs to the amateurs that fit in time to train whenever they can, not the professionals that are paid to train. There is an entire chapter dedicated to how disappointment in athletes that dope.

Once a year he sits down with his few trusted people and let them make very honest criticisms about his performance and how to help correct that, and he makes a strong case on listening to athletes from other sports on how to become a better triathlete. He also very honestly portrays what it's like to adapt as your body ages, and shows how you can still be a winner (he won Kona 2010 the second time at age 37,) but take the time to let your body recover. Macca made a real believer out of me, he's my favorite athlete in the sport now. A great book to read!!!

Brooks Nightlife Run !!

Our regular Wednesday evening group run will be a Brooks Nightlife Event!  Meet us in Bendel Subdivision at 6:15 p.m. for either a hill workout, or a moderately hilly training run, depending on what your goal for the evening is.  Everyone who attends will receive a coupon for 25% off of our Brooks Nightlife Apparel.
With so many things distracting drivers now, we want all of you to be
as visible as you can be.
Brooks Nightlife apparel is tested to determine which colors will be visible from the furthest
distance and is accented with 3M Scotchlite Reflective Material.
Their Nightlife run hats have both of these features, as well as a built in light on the back of
the hat.  No excuses here, folks.  If someone hits you wearing this, they were trying to.

The distances for the group run start at 1.7 miles (1 loop), and go up from there to any
distance youneed to do.
We will meet at the empty lot on the right hand side just as you turn into
Bendel Subdivision from Bendel Rd.

Hope to see you all there!

Congratulations to all of our runners who raced in Houston and Baton Rouge today.  The conditions were perfect for a truck load of PR's (personal records).  We are very proud of all of you for the hard work you have put in to be able to achieve and surpass your goals.  Thank you for inspiring us everyday!

Trail 5k/10k Close to Home (Assuming your home is near Carencro :)

Cherokee Ridge Horse Farm, Carencro

Here's a great way to experience a trail run without driving for hours.
The course is a 5k loop, so 10k'ers will loop twice (obviously).
There is a small section that is rooty, but for the most part you will be running through
fields, and alongside horse and cow pastures (they will be the spectators for the day).
This is a beautiful area of Acadiana, and I highly recommend this race as a
grreat way to introduce yourself to off-road running.
For more info, click here.

Olympic Trials are almost here and Brooks' athletes are ready!!

Brooks has 49 male and female athletes toeing the line in a competitive field of hundreds of runners who all qualified to race tomorrow. Only the top three male and female finishers will be joining the US Olympic Team for the 2012 Olympic Games in London this summer.

Week 1 of the 10,000 mile challenge

1831 miles!!

Wow!!  Thanks to all of our overachieving buddies, we are
already up to 1831 miles with 92 of 119 participants reporting.
That is amazing guys!

JUST A WARNING - it looks like I was underestimating you guys
by setting the goal so low, so I am considering bumping it up a tad.
Now that I see what the first week has brought, I
think you are capable of greater numbers.

Keep on running and tracking your mileage.  I will send out
another reminder email next Monday.  If you are signed up
for the challenge and you haven't sent in last weeks miles,
it's not too late.

Let's see how high we can go with this!
