Think you're tough?

"I realized that I have no desire to do something at which I knew I couldn’t fail. How mundane! I want to risk failure. What’s the worst that could happen? I fail to succeed?” Dr. Lisa Bliss

This morning, Lisa became the first woman ever (and only the second person in history) to cross Death Valley solo, unsupported and self-contained—meaning she ran alone, without outside help of  any kind, carrying all her food water and supplies in a 230-lb cart custom designed for her.

The journey from the Badwater Basin to the summit of Mt. Whitney will take her from the lowest point in the contiguous U.S. to the highest—an altitude change of more than 14,000 feet. Lisa will cross more than 135    miles of asphalt followed by an 11-mile climb to the summit of the mountain for a total of 146 miles in blistering desert temperatures up to 130 degrees.

Here's a chance to have all your Newton questions answered

If you are wondering what all the buzz is about, and why so many people are trying out Newtons, now is the time to have all of your questions answered!

NEWTON NIGHT!
Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday evening, we will be hosting a "Newton Night" with our trusty rep, Jordan.  It usually lasts 30-40 minutes and Jordan will cover topics such as Natural Running basics, injury prevention, shoe industry history, running form history, the importance of quality running shoes, and tips for the transition to natural running. After that, you will get a chance to try on the demo shoes that Jordan will be bringing.

FORM CLINIC
Sunday morning at 6:30 a.m.
The next morning we will do a combination of posture, barefoot, and running drills (I’ll bring the demos as well) for about 30 minutes and usually we will do a short group run after that.

If you want a chance to talk to Jordan about Newton, and you can't make it to Newton Night, he will arrive at the store Saturday about 4:30, and will be happy to work with you then.

If you haven't already sent a note, and you are planning to attend either event, please send a note to geauxrun@gmail.com so I will know who to expect.

Even if you aren't interested in moving into Newtons yet, this will be a good time to get some information on the brand, no obligation.  Hope to see you all there!!

Added bonus for becoming a member of Cajun Road Runners Club

In case getting to meet awesome runners isn't enough reason to join CRRC, here's another...

As a thank you to our friends in Cajun Road Runners Club, we are holding our first Cajun Road Runners Club Discount Day at Geaux Run!  This Saturday, July 30th, from 9:30 - 5:00 p.m., all CRRC members will receive double their usual discount at Geaux Run.  Saturday only, we will give a 20% discount off anything in the store when you show your membership card.

Also, if you have friends who have been considering joining CRRC, now is the time!!  We will have applications at GR Saturday, and if a new member joins CRRC, they will also be able to take advantage of the 20% off.  For a $20 individual membership, that gets them 20% off that day, and at all future CRRC days, as well as 10% off otherwise.  Not a bad deal.

Now's the time to stock up for race season!  See you Saturday!

Packed house

I have a feeling the trails will be a little more crowded this season!

On the table were examples of how NOT to hydrate on a trail run :)

Thanks to everyone who came out.  This is why we opened the store -
to provide a service to our local runners (friends).

Next trail clinic will be focused on ultra-distance races:
Where do I start? Can I do it?
What is a good race for a first timer?
What distance should I start with?
What should my training schedule look like?
And any other questions you may have.  I'll keep you posted on the date and time!

Race Ready Shorts and Run Skirts are in!!

At RaceReady, function is still NUMBER ONE, and our long distance running skirts with pockets won’t disappoint. We started with a solidly designed under-short made of DRYLINE fabric. Just like our popular Fitness Shorts, the under-short has a Coolmax-lined gusset that is very comfortable, breathable, and lends great support. Our long distance running skirts are stretchy and lightweight, providing complete freedom of movement with a lower waist design. Choose SOLID BLACK or BLACK with ACCENT COLORS. The long distance running skirt features the famous RaceReady patented pocketed design - 5 divided mesh pockets across the back of the skirt so you can go the distance... in style! Our running skirts with pockets have an inside credit-card size pocket, too. 14 inch skirt length.

Our traditional mid-length style (3" inseam) is our most popular style for women. These comfortable running shorts have gray CoolMax liners, draw cord, and all the great pockets. Five mesh pocket compartments, plus two velcro-closure pockets on the sides, make these shorts functional for carrying many and various items.

The longer, loose-fitting style (4" inseam). Our running shorts with pockets are ideal for all types of runners and walkers! CoolMax liners, drawcord, and lots of pockets! The fabric is so light and ideal for stylish running shorts of this length! The seven pockets handle your various needs for carrying nutrition, meds, keys, map, and other personal items, with the comfort and freedom that you just can't get wearing a belt or pack.

The ultimate in coverage! (6" inseam). MicroMove fabric, so light, allows us to go to great lengths with these running shorts! This fabric allows comfort, protection, and function. This loose-fitting and long style is up-to-date with the current fashion trends. A favorite choice for walkers and hikers, too. Yes, women are allowed to wear these long distance shorts, too. Coolmax liner. Draw cord. All the pockets, a total of seven!

Coming this fall - RaceReady Capri's and Tights!

Sunday Morning Group Run

Just in case you are wondering about the weather and the run tomorrow,
I checked the forecast, and it's only 20% chance of rain at 6 am.
 (Nevermind the 90% humidity)

The general rule for these runs is that the only time they will be cancelled
would be due to lightning.
If its raining, we're running.

Do people open the window when you take your shoes off?

After hearing enough of you complain about the funk in your shoes, here's a solution:
First application, spray 2 or 3 times in shoes, depending on strength of odor.
After that, spray into shoes 2 or 3 times per week.
Safe to use with our without socks.
And please, don't spray it into your eyes, that would be a bad idea.

For those of you considering an ultramarathon...

A few years ago, when I started thinking about running a 50 miler, a friend (Mark Delcambre) recommended that I read some guys race report on http://www.lafayettefitness.org/ on his first 50 miler in Texas.  After reading it, I was more motivated than ever to tackle the distance, especially knowing that there were other fools in the area who had done it.  In this case, that fool was Smitty - we soon became friends, running buddies, and now, in some strange twist of fate, I guess you can add business partners to the mix. Here's the link to his story:  http://www.lafayettefitness.org/Commentary/2007_smittys_ultra.htm

Don't miss Smitty's TRAIL CLINIC - Tuesday, July 26th at 6:30 p.m. at the store (906 Harding St).  Open to everyone, and there's never a charge.  Great info for anyone who wants to go any distance on the trails.

Cajun Coyote

Considering a trail race?  December is a great month to try it out!  We are fortunate enough to have the Cajun Coyote crew venture south again for a little run through the jungle.  Here's a taste of what you have in store for you...  Click the image for the full run down.

"It’s Cow Appreciation Day!! woo-hoo!! (or is it woo-moo?) Anymoo, after more than a few weeks of idling in the pasture, udderly embarrassed by the hiatus, have added a few more hooves to the roster.  Now, moooove along, little dogie…"

Yep - its gonna be a good one! We are going to begin leading trail runs at Chicot and other close by trails beginning in August (see earlier post), so you will have plenty of time to get acquainted with trail running by the time the race rolls around.  Contact Edie at 706-8763 or at geauxrun@gmail.com for more details
